Most of them are in nice condition as far as groove wear is concerned; unfortunately, however, they got wet at some point in the past 100 years, and those with white pre-dog test pressing labels didn't fare too well. Most of them have water stains and rubs to one degree or another, and those that had title and artist info written in purple ink are now stained pink. Regardless, this is still an exceptional find, and worthy of your attention. Lots 1018-1023 are heavy test pressings that never had paper labels (and therefore show no signs of water damage). Lots 1024-1029 are Zonophone tests which were not found with the Victors, but are included in this section since they date from the same general time period. It should also be noted that Lot 1017 was not found with the group of Victor tests either. This record is one of only a handful of early Victor pattern labels known to exist, and is of the highest rarity. As always, trade offers will be considered from anyone not able (or wishing) to place a monetary bid. 10", MBs as noted 1003. Issued recordings will have the catalog number assigned by the label shown in parenthesis. If a take other than the one on the test was issued, you will see the assigned catalog number and issued take in parenthesis. Most of these either have a blank white label with handwriting or no label at all. Because these were pressed on vinyl some years after the recordings were originally made, they generally have quieter surfaces that mint original 78 pressings. If it is the music you are interested in, these will generally give you the best sound available. On the other hand, if the metal part used to press the test was damaged or suffered any degradation over the years, the audio may be affected as well. In these cases, Brian has indicated that the record "swishes" (sws) or is noisy. Note that just because a pressing has a dull surface (ds), that does not necessarily mean that the sound is compromised. Those pressings that have a dull (rather than shiny) surface were that way when they were pulled from the stamper; they are not defective. In fact, many of these may very well be unplayed. 10" Vinyl Tests, MB $15 1030. They are pressed on reddish-brown acetate (these are not coated lacquers), and tend to warp like Hit-of-the-Weeks. They may be played by using a record clamp (which I have available for $39, by the way). Most of the discs do not have catalog numbers listed on the labels, so we have ordered them by matrix number instead. Catalog numbers, where present, are given in parenthesis.
