78rpm Label Varieties
We make use of many different abbreviations to describe the various labels and label varieties offered in our auctions. These can be very confusing for new collectors and/or those who have not studied the books that have been published which address these issues.
To aid our bidders in understanding the primary varieties one encounters for various major labels, we have assembled several label galleries. In the future, we will post galleries for Canadian Berliner/Victor, the Gramophone Company and others.
These images are taken from the American Record Label Image Encyclopedia (ARLIE), which is a CD-ROM that contains over 1100 full color label images issued in the United States before World War II. This CD-ROM is bundled with a book entitled American Record Labels & Companies - An Encyclopedia, 1891-1943 by Allan Sutton. Copies of the book and CD are available from the Resource Catalog section of our website for $95 plus postage.
